Design
A unique sweatshirt design that goes beyond a simple panel construction, featuring a raglan sleeve on the left side and a shirt-style sleeve on the right.
The panel seams are accented and reinforced with traditional sashiko stitching by Sashiko Gals.
The boxy silhouette falls naturally from the body, giving the piece enough presence to serve as the focal point of an outfit while also working effectively as a layering piece.
Sashiko Gals is a project established in 2024 by approximately 15 women in their 40s to 80s living in Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture. Its roots can be traced back to the Otsuchi Sashiko Project, which was launched as part of reconstruction efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The fabric is not particularly heavy. Although it is a sweatshirt, its weight is closer to that of a substantial thermal shirt.
Fabric
Made from urake, a sweatshirt fabric knitted with looped pile on the reverse side.
The face is smooth and flat, while the reverse features rows of loops resembling towel fabric.
The looped interior readily absorbs moisture and offers good breathability.
Its breathable construction helps prevent stuffiness, keeping it comfortable even during extended wear.
With minimal bulk and stiffness, it is easy to incorporate into everyday styling.
Suitable for a long season of wear, from early autumn through early spring.
With repeated washing, the loops on the reverse gradually become slightly compressed, developing a richer texture and character over time.
As it is worn and washed, the fabric becomes softer and increasingly conforms to the body.
